Applications for the Weston Family Awards in Northern Research will be accepted starting on October 24th. All applications (including supporting documents) must be received before January 16, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. (EST).

Objective: Since 2007, the Weston Family Awards in Northern Research have provided unparalleled support to early career scientists undertaking research in northern Canada.

Funded by the Weston Family Foundation, these annual awards are some of the most prestigious in the country for students pursuing a master’s degree, doctoral degree or postdoctoral fellowship. Since the awards program’s inception, over 350 early career scientists have been supported resulting in a community of Weston Family Northern Scientists at the forefront of northern scholarship.

Number, Value and Duration of Scholarships: In the 2025-2026 program year, the Weston Family Foundation will support:

  • Up to fifteen (15) awards for master’s students. Each award is valued at $20,000 over one (1) year.
  • Up to ten (10) awards for doctoral students. Each award is valued at $120,000 over three (3) years.
  • Up to five (5) awards for postdoctoral fellows. Each award is valued at $110,000 over two (2) years + up to $10,000 per year for travel and conference expenses, with funding in the second-year contingent upon acceptable progress in the proposed area of research in the first year.

Eligibility: Please consult the application guidelines for the appropriate award stream (master’s, doctoral or postdoctoral) to determine your eligibility. The application guidelines are available on the awards program website www.westonfamilyawards.ca and in this portal.
